What is Homeopathy?
The principle behind homeopathy dates back to circa 377-460 BC to a healing system which a German doctor named Samuel Hahnemann developed. Over 250 years ago and this approach is still in use today. The word homeopathy means“similar suffering”, a substance that can produce symptoms in a healthy person can cure the same symptoms in someone who is sick. eg. coffee can keep one awake yet when used in a homeopathic form it can induce sleep when one is suffering from insomnia.
Therefore homeopathy is a completely natural medicine and it is a system that allows the body to heal itself on a physical, mental and emotional level. It works by stimulating the body’s natural defences, thus enabling it to restore itself to a state of natural balance and wellbeing. If one part of you is under functioning, it will affect other systems in the body, as every system is connected.
Homeopathy recognises the importance of treating the individual holistically and not only focus on the disease symptoms. Disease symptoms are often the body’s way of telling us that all is not well. If you get a pain in your back, your body is asking you to rest, but most of us take a pill to kill the pain. What we are actually doing is killing the communication. Suppose your car shows a red light warning signal and you take it to the garage and the mechanic takes out the bulb and sends you on your way. You continue with the fault and the only difference is you can not see the warning light. Similarly, by taking the pain killer you have just killed the communication and the cause of the problem still remains.
